Lenoir County sheriff's deputy involved in shooting

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office released few details about an officer-involved shooting that happened early Sunday at a Waffle House in Kinston.

KINSTON, N.C. — The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy working off-duty security was involved in a shooting early Sunday at a Waffle House in Kinston.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. at the restaurant on U.S. Highway 70. The department would not immediately release the name of the deputy or the person shot.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Kinston Department of Public Safety are investigating. In a brief release to the media, the sheriff’s office said it would not comment on the shooting and referred questions to the SBI.
