A Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune died Tuesday of wounds he suffered in Afghanistan, officials announced Thursday.

<b>CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.</b> — A Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune died Tuesday of wounds he suffered in Afghanistan, officials announced Thursday.

Cpl. Xhacob Latorre, 21, of Waterbury, Conn., died while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, officials said. He was a mortar man assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Latorre joined the Marine Corps in June 2005 and was deployed to Afghanistan in May. He is survived by a wife and a son.
