A colonel stationed at Camp Lejeune is facing sexual assault charges against a child.

According to WITN, Col. Daniel H. Wilson, 55, of Mason, Wash., is charged with sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child, assault by battery on a child under the age of 16, failure to obey general order or regulation and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

The Naval Criminal Investigation Service is handling the investigation of the charges, base officials said.

Wilson is assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force and has been in the Marine Corps since June 1981, according to a news release from the Marines. He has completed 11 deployments in his career.

Wilson was reassigned to administrative duties following the beginning of the investigation.
