SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford man was charged in connection with the shooting death of his nephew overnight.

Lee County deputies responded to a home on Womack Lake Road in Sanford around 12:45 a.m.

Tony Luellen was found having been shot in the stomach. Family members at the home told deputies that Timothy Honea shot Luellen and left the home with a gun.

Deputies found Honea at a home nearby. A release noted witnesses said Luellen and Honea had been arguing over an intoxicated family member and about Luellen staying over night at the house.

Honea, 53, was charged with murder.

Luellen, from Newport News, Va., was 37 years old.
