Lee commissioners reinstate concealed weapons ban for public buildings
A change in the makeup of the Lee County Board of Commissioners has led to the repeal of a measure allowing people with valid permits to bring concealed handguns into county buildings.

The Republican-controlled board voted in October to lift the county's ban on concealed weapons in public buildings. The change was to go into effect Jan. 1 but wouldn't have applied to area schools, the county courthouse, law enforcement agencies or any building also housing state or federal offices.
After the Nov. 4 election, Democrats gained the majority on the Board of Commissioners, and they voted Monday to reverse the earlier vote.
Four other North Carolina counties – Alamance, Cherokee, Henderson and Rowan counties – allow people with conceal carry permits to take handguns into county buildings.
