RALEIGH, N.C. — The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) said Friday that it will close two of its 16 Triangle stores in January.

The stores at 1610 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and 4111 New Bern Ave. have been in operation since 1993 and 2002, respectively. Company officials said they have been unprofitable, despite attempts to upgrade them.

Kroger said it would work with the local union to help displaced workers find new jobs.
