Knightdale group to hold first meeting on school improvement
A task force formed to figure out how to improve student performance and the perception of schools in Knightdale will met for the first time Tuesday night.

The Knightdale Area Education Work Group will address problems revealed in an audit last year.
Knightdale Mayor Russell Killen says he wants to change the poor perception about schools in his town.
“You have almost 50 percent of the students in Knightdale not going to Knightdale schools,” he said earlier this month.
The audit showed inconsistent teacher expectations and unevenly distributed resources. Auditors looked at Knightdale Elementary, Hodge Road Elementary, East Wake Middle and Knightdale High schools.
The work group will likely look at the audit and student achievement numbers as they try to find a solution.
The mayor says the reality of fixing the problem will come down to money.
"Meeting is great, talk is great. Now we need to get results, and we need to do it quickly because it is long overdue,” Killen said.
