Kindie band Recess Monkey chats about music, fish sticks during Carrboro visit
Recess Monkey played a great, high-energy show at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro on Saturday. Kids danced in the "pit" up front as the band played favorites from their many albums.
Posted — Updated"We jumped at the chance," said Jack Forman about the return. "Our goal as a band is only to travel during the hottest week of the year."
They've also enjoyed the warm climate of our nation's capital. Before traveling to the Triangle, they'd just played a couple of shows at Wolf Trap near Washington, D.C., and a live Rumpus Room show on Sirius XM Kids Place Live. It should be noted that Forman recently signed on with Sirius XM for his very own show "Live from the Monkey House."
I chatted with the guys, including new member Korum Bischoff about their shows, their new CD "Deep Sea Diver" and the next one, which comes out in the fall. Based on a deserted island, the guys tell me they've stripped away all of the electricity, making it very different from their usual work.
"It's a very experimental kind of record for us," Forman tells me.
Hear more from Recess Monkey in my video interview with them. And watch them play "Fish Sticks" in the second video.
Thanks to The ArtsCenter and Recess Monkey for a great concert!
