Kidzu Children's Museum in Chapel Hill will temporarily relocate to a new space across Franklin Street in University Square early this summer, according to a news release.

The new location will serve as Kidzu's temporary home until it moves into its permanent space on top of the Wallace Parking deck on Rosemary Street. The museum is scheduled to close its doors in May and open in the new location in mid-June. Museum memberships will be extended. The release says there will be more information in the coming weeks.

Says Kidzu board chair Dennis Schaecher in the release: “We were able to negotiate a favorable deal with the landlord who recognizes the importance of the museum in our community, as well as the benefit of adding Kidzu to the mix of outstanding tenants at University Square. We appreciate the understanding of our members and the community in accommodating this move, which will allow us to get into our permanent site that much sooner. And, in the meantime, we’re confident they’ll be delighted with our new temporary home.”

Kidzu, which opened five years ago, is designed for kids ages 0 to 8.
