Kids performer Willa Brigham tells stories through quilts
You might know of Willa Brigham from her popular show for kids on WRAL-TV called Smart Start Kids. But Brigham of Cary also explores another way to tell stories: through her quilts.

But Brigham of Cary also explores another way to tell stories: through her quilts. An exhibit of Brigham's quilts opens Friday at the Scrap Exchange in Durham. The exhibit called "I Used to Be Something Else" runs until March 16. The Cary quilter says she can't bear to see clothing items thrown out when they've still got life in them. So she recycles items such as old shirts, skirts, curtains and pants to create her quilts.
“I love the fact that it has had a life and I’m giving it another life before it goes to that recycle bin in the sky,” said Brigham, a member of the African American Quilt Circle. She hopes that her quilts encourage visitors to think about their own recycling habits.
The gallery is open during Scrap Exchange store hours: Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
