Journalist spends 10 hours as Jew in Paris, records abuse

The video appears to show Israeli journalist Zvika Klein verbally abused in areas with a large Muslim population. One man followed him, calling “Jew.” Another person appears to spit on him.

"I kind of felt like a walking target. I had a bodyguard with me,” Klein said. “At certain points, he also told us to leave certain areas because he saw a commotion, things going on because of the fact I was there."

Out of the 10 hours of footage, Klein posted 90 seconds. CNN did not see the rest of the footage.

Klein copied the format that went viral back in October when a woman spent 10 hours walking around New York being subjected to sexist abuse. That video was viewed nearly 40 million times.

Klein says he wants to raise awareness of everyday anti-Semitism in Europe in the wake of terror attacks in France. In the January Paris attacks, four Jews were murdered at a Kosher supermarket.

Klein’s video begins with him at the Eiffel Tower, but he admits most of the abuse he received was out in the poor, predominantly Muslim suburbs of Paris.

"I'm not claiming to say that it’s a story of the whole city, but then again, France is in Europe and France is a democracy, and I don’t think it should be a problem for any person that believes in any religion to walk in any street in these cities,” Klein said.

Although Klein says he was extremely scared at times, he was actually expecting worse.

"I also could've been beaten up, which is something that I thought was going to happen, and it didn’t happen. And most of the people that walked next to me and saw the way I was dressed treated me with respect."

The mayor’s office did not respond to requests for reaction to the story.
