Jose and Sons trio to open restaurant in old Cafe Helios space

Charlie Ibarra, Hector Ibarra and executive chef Oscar Diaz are behind the new restaurant at 413 Glenwood Ave. in the spring.

"We've had a second concept in mind for almost two years now and have been looking around the downtown area for a space that fits what we're envisioning. We love the Helios space, it's open kitchen interior and inviting patio out front. The Glenwood South area is really starting to gain a lot of momentum right now and we think it's a great time to join the neighborhood," Charlie Ibarra said Thursday.

Charlie Ibarra said he can't disclose too much about the new concept.

"Jose and Sons has been a wonderful avenue for us to describe our experience of being Latinos in the South through food and drink and with the new concept we will express our experiences growing up in diverse neighborhoods and being exposed to various cuisines, our food travels around the country, and our respect for our roots as Mexican-Americans. What ultimately drives us is to serve something we crave regularly and haven't been able to find locally," he said.

Jose and Sons, which celebrates the Ibarra family's Mexican-Southern upbringing, has been open since 2013. The restaurant was previously known as Jibarra.
