KENLY, N.C. — A former employee added fictitious workers to the payroll in order to embezzle thousands from Etheridge Oil in Kenly, police said.

Deborah Lynn Hill, of Smithfield, stole approximately $169,000 from the company between 2005 and 2006, Kenly police said.

She channeled the false employee's salaries into her personal bank account, officials said.

Hill was arrested Monday after a lengthy investigation by the Kenly Police Department, Johnston County District Attorney's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation.

She is charged with obtaining property by false pretense, identity theft and forgery, among other offenses.
