Johnston County man charged with shooting two

Two people were shot Saturday morning during a dispute at a Johnston County home, according to the sheriff's office.

PRINCETON, N.C. — Two people were shot Saturday morning during a dispute at a Johnston County home, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said that Dana Terrill Atkinson, 38, of Princeton, opened fire at several people at 105 Eddie Drive, striking two. They suffered non-life-threatening injures and were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh. Their names and an update on their conditions have not been released.

Atkinson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Johnston County jail under a $1.1 million bond.

His 20-year-long criminal record includes convictions for trafficking cocaine and discharging a firearm into occupied property, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He has served two prison terms totaling more than five years.
