JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh has a couple of fun events coming up this month.

Here's what's scheduled, with descriptions courtesy the arboretum:

  • The Summer Solstice Family Fun Night is 5:30 p.m. to 8:34 p.m., Friday. Celebrate the longest day of the year at the arboretum. Deli-icious Food Truck will be in the parking circle starting at 5:30 p.m. Outdoor games and Howling Cow ice cream are on the Ellipse event lawn starting at 6 p.m. A limited seating, indoor showing of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax starts at 7 p.m. in the McSwain Education Center. The evening ends with a beautiful sunset on the A.E. Finley Rooftop Garden. There are admission fees for the activities. Check out the event's website page for details.
  • Kid Approved Annual Trial Day is 10:30 a.m., June 28. Kids ages 6 and up can come learn about the annual trials program at the JC Raulston Arboretum, participate in collecting data just like the arboretum's judges do on the annuals in the trials, and then pick out their top five plants. After they have voted, there is a hot dog lunch to enjoy. After the votes are tallied, the first ever gold, silver, bronze "Kid Approved" winners will be announced on the arboretum's website. Advance registration is required. The fee is $5 per child. For more information, click here.
