Jackie Hyland: Baby, it's cold outside!

As a Mom, I worry, worry, worry that my girls are not bundling up enough before leaving for school in the morning.

It is January, after all, so chilly temperatures, while not welcome, are certainly not surprising!

As a Mom, I worry, worry, worry that my girls are not bundling up enough before leaving for school in the morning.

When they were little it was so easy. I was in charge of how many layers I could wrap around their little bodies, and let me tell you over time I got really good at layering on those layers.

Sometimes they were so bundled up they could hardly move! Often, when I thought I had done an excellent job of bundling my precious bundles of joy, somehow my mother-in-law thought they were not bundled enough.

Now I have a whole other problem: My girls are old enough to fight back against bundling up! This morning, temperatures were below 20 degrees so I dragged myself out of bed at the crack of dawn to tell my 16-year-old to make sure to dress properly before going out to school.

She was wearing a sweatshirt and a scarf and she told me she was wearing enough! I, of course, freaked out, telling her she needed to wear a jacket. How about a hat? Maybe even gloves?? I love gloves!!

She compromised and wore a vest over her sweatshirt. As for my younger daughter, she was a little more eager to please and wore a winter jacket. I really hope this winter isn't too cold. I will be exhausted from begging my girls to bundle up!

Funny, as I write this, I have a distant memory of my Dad begging me to dress more appropriately in the cold weather! Ah yes, Dad, it has taken years, but now I finally understand! Love you, Dad!
