RALEIGH, N.C. — Enthusiastic customers lined up at the AT&T Store in Raleigh Friday to get their hands on the latest iteration of the iPhone.

The gadget giddiness extended outside, where several customers camped out to be the first to buy an iPhone 6.

Kevin Wright, store manager, said he saw some chairs and a tent in the line.

"No campfires or s'mores, but we did give them s'mores granola bars," Wright said.

David Gillie couldn't wait to get his hands on the new device with its bigger screen, better camera and faster processor.

"It's supposed to be the new hottest thing," he said.

"I like it because it's a little bit bigger, and I'm getting a little bit older. It's a little easier for me to see."

But his first purchase of an iPhone 6 is actually for his 15-year-old son.

“He’ll be happy with that,” Gillie said, acknowledging that he'd likely be back to get one for himself.

"I probably will," he said, "when my contract is up. When it’s time."

Customer Marge Tan wasn't one to wait.

"I'd like to try it because I think it will be faster, and I can download more applications in it," she said.

The iPhone 6 starts at $199 and measures 5.5 inches by 2.6 inches. The iPhone 6 Plus is even bigger and more costly. It is more than 6 inches long and 3 inches wide, and prices start at $299.

That bigger screen has been in bigger demand and, thus, in shorter supply.

Toussaint Thompson was in line with his son Kyle and his wife Kyla.

“It’s just better," he said. "The processing is better, the look of it is better. There are just more things you can do.

"We like our gadgets," he said. "We're a new millennium family, you know!"

As they got used to their new devices, most users had one must-try app. Even in the parking lot, plenty were posting for selfies.
