GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A fugitive wanted in connection with a double homicide in Iowa was arrested Monday in Wayne County, authorities said.

Atiba Spellman, 33, was wanted in Ames, Iowa, on charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of two Des Moines Area Community College students on Saturday, according to The Des Moines Register.

Spellman was taken into custody Monday afternoon in Pikeville after authorities spotted him driving.

Ames police have not provided a possible motive for the crime or said how the victims, Michael Odikro, 32, and Shakena Varnell, 34, were killed, the newspaper said.

Spellman was in the Wayne County Jail Tuesday under a $2 million bond.
