Investigators: Fayetteville fire was intentionally set
Chief Benjamin Nichols of the Fayetteville Fire Department said Tuesday that investigators believe the victim of the fire may have started it.

Authorities have not identified the man found inside the burning home at 1118 Cedar Creek Road.
An autopsy determined that the man died of gunshot wounds, police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. Chance said police are not treating the death as a homicide.

Members of the Fayetteville Fire Investigation Team have not found where the fire started, Nichols said. They determined that the fire inside the home likely caused a backdraft, in which gases from the fire explode outward when oxygen is added.
Nichols said the explosion shifted the home a quarter-inch off its foundation. Investigators found debris up to 118 feet away.
