DURHAM, N.C. — A fire department spokeswoman said Thursday that the fire at Royal Oaks Apartments on Weymouth and Mayfair streets in Durham appears to have been arson.

The blaze started just before 11 p.m. Tuesday and burned two of the apartment's eight units, according to fire officials. The first-floor apartments were evacuated due to water damage.

Investigators don't yet know how the fire started, but it seems that it was intentional, according to Sierra Jackson, a public affairs specialist for the DFD.
