One of my favorite places to cool off in the Triangle - the Museum of Life and Science's Into the Mist - is open for the season.

The outdoor exhibit teaches lessons about water and wind and topography. But kids love getting wet in the mist of a large dome; run through more mist in the mogul field; or build with sand on rocks and watch how the water, coming down from the rain tree, moves and changes their creations (while they get wet, of course).

You'll also find tunnels, a hut and other fun elements.

Into the Mist is free with admission to the museum, which is $14.50 for adults and $10 for kids ages 3 to 12.

More news from the Durham museum: The new Gateway Park, which replaces the old Loblolly Park, should open this week. Kids will be able to play in a 900-square-foot sand play area and navigate a large rope climbing piece.

Hideaway Woods and its collection of tree houses should open late summer 2015.
