RALEIGH, N.C. — One of two lanes on a stretch of Interstate 40 westbound will be closed this weekend, N.C. Department of Transportation officials announced Tuesday.

Lanes will be reduced between exit 289 (Wade Avenue) and the Wade Avenue overpass from Friday at 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday. The closure will take place weather permitting.

The lane reduction is part of an ongoing project to rehabilitate a 12.9 mile stretch of Interstate 440/ Interstate 40 from exit 289 to exit 301 (Interstate 440/Interstate 40 split), officials said. The $8.5 million project is expected to be completed this month.
