Interim chancellor named at UNC-P
Charles Jenkins, former provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNC-Pembroke, was named Monday as the school's interim chancellor, effective July 1.

Jenkins succeeds Allen C. Meadors, who stepped down after 10 years at UNC-P to take the top job at the University of Central Arkansas, his alma mater.
“During his 38 years of service to UNC-Pembroke, Charles Jenkins has distinguished himself as a top-notch academic administrator and teacher," UNC President Erskine Bowles said in a statement. “He has unmatched knowledge of UNC-P and the surrounding region, and he has earned the trust and respect of his faculty colleagues, the students, the local community and other key campus constituencies. UNC-P will be in very capable hands during the search for a permanent chancellor.”
Jenkins has served UNC-P in various capacities since 1971, with 26 years in senior administrative posts.
“I see this as another opportunity to serve UNC-Pembroke, which greatly affects this region and the state,” Jenkins said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the students, faculty, staff and all UNC-P’s constituencies.”
A Rockingham native, Jenkins earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from East Carolina University and a doctorate in educational administration from Duke University.
