Inmates charged in escape from Wayne jail
Two inmates severely beat a male detention officer at the Wayne County jail Saturday and escaped briefly, according to the sheriff's office.

Tracey Deaver, 18, of 103 Deaver Drive in Dudley, and Michael David Minard, 19, of 218 Mimmosa Drive in Goldsboro, were charged Tuesday with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, secret assault with intent to kill, assault by strangulation, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault by strangulation.
They were given separate $150,000 secured bonds.
Investigators said that Deaver and Minard rigged their cell door so it appeared to be closed and attacked a guard when he turned his back. They stole the guard's keys and radio and broke a door to get into the courthouse, authorities said. They left through an emergency exit to leave but were caught in a cemetery a couple blocks away.
Detention Officer Albert Anders, 53, was severely beaten in the attack but has been released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Minard had been jailed while facing charges of second-degree kidnapping, assault by strangulation, assault on a female and communicating threats. Deaver faced three counts of statutory rape and one count each of larceny and injury to personal property.
Minard had previous convictions for larceny and willful or wanton injury to property, for which he served probation, according to state Department of Correction records.
