RALEIGH, N.C. — State prison officials said Thursday that an inmate who walked away from a work-release job two weeks ago has returned to the Raleigh Correctional Center for Women.

Laticia Howze, 33, who is serving a sentence for robbery, didn't return to the prison on May 25 from her work-release job at Snoopy's Hot Dogs on Hillsborough Street.

Department of Correction officials remained in close contact with Howze's mother while searching for her, and the mother returned Howze to the prison Wednesday afternoon, said George Dudley, a spokesman for the Department of Correction.

Howze faces an escape charge, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison. She and another woman were convicted in 2001 of two Asheville robberies.
