Inmate charged with stabbing of corrections officer

An inmate at Central Prison in Raleigh was charged Friday with stabbing a corrections officer this week, authorities said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — An inmate at Central Prison in Raleigh was charged Friday with stabbing a corrections officer this week, authorities said.

Orlando Gattison, 26, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the Wednesday morning stabbing.

The unidentified officer was taken to WakeMed for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Gattison is serving a sentence for two robbery convictions. State Department of Public Safety records show he has piled up 27 infractions in the last six years, ranging from disobeying orders to fighting to weapon possession.
