I-440 reopens in Raleigh after 4-car crash near Wake Forest Road

A crash on Interstate 440 at Capital Boulevard closed multiple lanes Tuesday, causing heavy delays for the morning commute.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A crash on Interstate 440 at Capital Boulevard closed multiple lanes Tuesday, causing heavy delays for the morning commute.

The crash was reported before 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Exit 10 for Wake Forest Road. The lanes reopened by 8 a.m.

Four cars appeared to be involved in the crash, including a red pickup truck, a sports car and a work van. An SUV had a broken windshield.

The drivers were outside of the cars and talking to police officers, and it appeared that everyone was okay.

At one point, the crash was causing 37-minute delays between Interstate 87 and Wade Avenue.

Delays may persist through the rush hour even after the lanes reopened.
