I-40 West reopened after tractor-trailer fire

A tractor-trailer fire has shut down two westbound lanes of Interstate 40, west of Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, according to the state Department of Transportation.

RALEIGH, N.C. — All lanes of Interstate 40 West in Raleigh have been reopened after a tractor-trailer fire late Wednesday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.

An empty car hauler belonging to St. Louis-based JMN Transportation caught fire west of Lake Wheeler Road.

The driver appeared to be OK and was talking to police and firefighters.

At one point, three of four westbound lanes of I-40 were closed as crews fought the fire. Crews cleared the scene shortly before noon.

More details about the incident were not immediately available.
