Holly Springs principal dies

The first principal of Holly Springs High School died Friday, his family said. Luther Johnson Jr. was 39.

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — The first principal of Holly Springs High School died Friday, his family said. Luther Johnson Jr. was 39. 

Johnson served many roles in the Wake County Public School System. He was previously the principal at Leesville Road Middle School and had been assistant principal at Wakefield High School.

He grew up in High Point and earned a degree in mathematics at Winston-Salem State University. He got his master's degree in Education from UNC-Greensboro and was working on a doctorate at North Carolina State University at the time of his death.
