Holly Springs jogger struck by car, critically injured

A 37-year-old man was seriously hurt Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while jogging with his wife in Holly Springs, police said.

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — A 37-year-old man was seriously hurt Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while jogging with his wife in Holly Springs, police said.

The accident happened at the intersection of Holly Springs Road and Linksland Drive, near the Sunset Ridge neighborhood, about 6:30 a.m.

Police said it appears Derek Davis was trying to cross in the crosswalk with his wife when he was struck by Roberto Carlos Solis Reyes, an 18-year-old student at Holly Springs High School.

Davis, a software developer at SAS, was last listed in critical condition at WakeMed in Raleigh.

A 17-year-old passenger in Reyes' vehicle was not hurt.

The accident remains under investigation, and no charges were immediately filed.
