Skies clear across Triangle; frost expected early on Easter Sunday
Skies cleared across central and eastern North Carolina Saturday afternoon, making way for abundant sunshine and cooler temperatures.
Posted — UpdatedThe National Weather Service issued two alerts Saturday afternoon due to the expected cold temperatures.
Western Triangle counties, including Durham and Orange, are under a freeze warning from a 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Sunday. Central and southern counties, including Wake, Johnston and Cumberland, are under a frost advisory during the same time period.
"We will see lows in the 30s across the area, but this will not be a hard freeze," said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.
Easter Sunday morning will be bright but cold.
"Parts of the area could see some frost early Sunday, so if you're headed out for a sunrise service be sure to grab a jacket," Wilmoth said.
High temperatures on Sunday will reach 65 degrees – about 10 degrees below normal for early April – during the afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny.
Scattered rain is possible on Monday and Tuesday as warmer air arrives.
Highs Monday will be in the low to mid-70s before climbing into the upper 70s to low 80s by the end next week.
