PRINCETON, N.C. — A Princeton High School senior was killed Tuesday evening in a one-car wreck, authorities said.

Gilbert Michael Martin, 17, of 3131-A Progressive Church Road in Princeton, was westbound on Red House Road, about four miles west of Princeton, when he lost control of his car at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

The car hit a ditch, flipped, hit a tree and came to rest in the front yard of a home, authorities said.

Martin was transported to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Passenger Joshua Anderson, who wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol wasn't involved in the wreck, authorities said, blaming the crash on excessive speed and worn tires.
