Heat, humidity bring scattered storms
Heat and humidity Sunday led to thunderstorms for parts of central North Carolina Sunday evening as a system moved through parts of the area.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Heat and humidity Sunday led to thunderstorm warnings for parts of central North Carolina Sunday evening as a system moved through the area.
The National Weather Service briefly had Person County under a severe thunderstorm warning, and Orange County was on alert for strong storms capable of producing gusty winds, heavy rainfall and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning. (View a list of the latest weather advisories, alerts and warnings.)
Strong thunderstorms also moved across Moore County, where a flood advisory was in effect until midnight.
"This is the same kind of pattern that's going to occur for the next couple of days," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. "There's no real big changes in the forecast."
Sunday's high at Raleigh-Durham International Airport reached 89 degrees. Temperatures for the rest of the week will also hover around the 90-degree mark.
