<b>NEW HILL, N.C.</b> — Progress Energy tested sirens around the Harris Plant in New Hill Tuesday between 10 and 11 a.m. <br />

Each of 83 sirens in the area around the plant sounded for approximately five seconds at full volume during the test. <br />

Progress Energy conducts silent tests every two weeks and short duration tests every three months to ensure sirens are working properly in case of a real emergency.
