NEW HILL, N.C. — Progress Energy tested sirens around the Harris Plant in New Hill Tuesday between 10 and 11 a.m.

Each of 83 sirens in the area around the plant sounded for approximately five seconds at full volume during the test.

Progress Energy conducts silent tests every two weeks and short duration tests every three months to ensure sirens are working properly in case of a real emergency.
