<b>LILLINGTON, N.C.</b> — A Harnett County firefighter died Monday after responding to a fire, authorities said.

Donald "Donnie" Suggs, 55, was assistant chief of the Summerville Fire Department in Lillington. He had been with the department for more than a decade.

He collapsed at home shortly after the fire, authorities said. It wasn't clear whether the fire played a role in Suggs' death.

A visitation is planned for Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at O'Quinn Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington. A funeral is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Lillington Baptist Church. Burial will follow at West View Memorial Gardens.
