ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Halifax County teacher and her 16-year-old daughter were arrested Friday on charges that they assaulted a middle school student.

Lt. B.L. Martin said that the Halifax County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from a William R. Davie Middle school student that he had been assaulted by a teacher and her daughter inside a classroom.

Investigators charged Judy Green, 43, of Roanoke Rapids, and her daughter Ashlie Green with assault and battery. Bond information for them was not available.

Green was suspended with pay, said Keith Hoggard, a spokesman for Halifax County Schools.

The mother and daughter were scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 14.
