A 35-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Saturday morning and charged with sexual crimes involving a minor.

<b>ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C.</b> — A 35-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Saturday morning and charged with sexual crimes involving a minor.

Russell William Hathaway Jr. is charged with indecent liberties with a child and attempted first-degree rape.

Investigators say Hathaway Jr. knew the juvenile victim. He was taken into custody without incident and is in the Halifax County jail under a $100,000 bond.

Hathaway Jr. is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Oct. 21.
