Greg Fishel: A review of winter so far

This winter has been very tame so far, not the remainder of February couldn't change all that.

Don’t let significant, but nonetheless geographically isolated, events fool you. This winter has been very tame so far.

Not that the remainder of February couldn’t change all that, but it will take a lot of work. From a temperature perspective, December was a joke. Virtually the entire country was “flooded” with mild air. January tried to make up for December but was only partially successful, and only in the eastern United States, looking at the two months combined, the “milds” win.

From a precipitation standpoint, a lot of the country was near normal. But there were notable exceptions, especially the West Coast. One month was very wet, and the next very dry. Of course. the snows in Boston have been truly historic, and there appear to be more coming. But Boston is a city, not a country.
