Showers stick around Thursday; sun returns Friday

"That will be the worst we will see," WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said. "There is no threat of severe storms for us. That is confined to the coast."

Showers will get lighter as Thursday evening wears on, but true clearing won't come back until Friday afternoon, Maze said.

"This evening we're looking at spotty, light rain, drizzle and even fog, which could be rather thick through the night," he said.

Thursday reached a high temperature in Raleigh in the low 60s, but temperatures behind the cold front pushing the rain will feel dramatically different.

“If you have anything planned for the outdoors, you’ll be fine. It’s just that it won’t be terribly warm. Our temperatures will crash behind the front,” WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

After a cool weekend, warmer weather will return for Monday, Tuesday and the middle of next week.
