Goldsboro prison escapee captured near New Bern

Johnny Dickerson, 29, was serving a six-month sentence for misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and simple assault, the Department of Correction said Monday.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — An inmate who escaped from a Goldsboro prison Saturday night was arrested Tuesday afternoon, the North Carolina Department of Correction said.

Johnny Dewayne Dickerson was detained shortly after 1 p.m. in a wooded area off U.S. 17, south of New Bern, DOC spokesman Mike Stater said in a news release.

Dickerson, 29, has been serving a six-month sentence for misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and simple assault.

He was convicted in November and began his sentence last month, according to the DOC's Offender Public Information database.
