A Goldsboro police officer was shot Sunday.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Goldsboro police officer was shot Sunday.

It happened at the intersection of Elm and Creech streets at about 2:45 p.m.

While executing a traffic stop, an altercation occurred between officer Clint Hales and the driver of a vehicle. Hales and driver Jerome Demond Wright were shot.

Hales and Wright were taken to the Wayne Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Wright was later transported by helicopter to Pitt Memorial Hospital.

Hales was listed in stable condition Monday. Wright's condition was unknown.

The State Bureau of Investigation was probing the incident.
