Chapel Hill boy's St. Baldrick's story has happy ending

RALEIGH, N.C. — This is the time of year when many people shave their heads for a great cause - The St. Baldrick's Foundation.

This volunteer-driven nonprofit helps fight children's cancer. And this year, a 7-year-old Chapel Hill boy is one of the ambassadors for the organization.

Phineas Sandi was diagnosed with chemo-resistant acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2013 – six years after his sister died from acute myeloid leukemia.

Phineas participated in an immunotherapy trial, supported by St. Baldrick’s, and within a month, he was free of leukemia. In addition, he underwent a bone marrow transplant to ensure he will remain in remission. More than two years later, Phineas is still cancer-free.
