Everyone has a person like this on their list. The person who has everything. If they want it, they buy it themselves. And when you ask them what they want for the holidays, they say "nothing in particular." You have to buy them something and their indifference makes you even more determined to wow them!
In cases like these, I try to find an "experience" gift. An afternoon learning how to cook crepes or zip-lining through the forest might just be the perfect gift.
A few suggestions for local "experience" gifts:
Beer 1001 Class -
Bull City Burger and Brewery in Durham hosts this class on Jan. 17 from 8:05-9:45 p.m. At $15 a seat, it is the perfect gift for the beer enthusiast. Find out about beer history, brewing, ingredients, myths, flaws, facts, humor and do some tasting. Tickets must be purchased
online. Seating is limited to 25 people and you must be 21 and older to attend.
Fitness classes - From pole-dancing to Zumba, there is something for everyone's interest and skill level out there.
Turn Me Loose Fitness in Raleigh and
Aradia Fitness in Cary offer dance and pole classes. If your special someone is shy and new to the gym, maybe book some time for them with a personal trainer. Just make sure the person wants to work out before you buy them a fitness gift. You don't want them thinking that you are telling them to lose a few pounds! It is all about having a good time.
Zip-lining - Soak up a day outdoors, during a
Zip-line tour like the one offered in Fayetteville. This tour takes you through the forest and over creeks. Tours are $85 per person, but there are promotional offers and sales going on for the holidays. Just make sure to read all the policies and requirements beforehand.
Cooking classes -
Southern Season offers classes from sweet to savory (I want to try the biscuit making class) and
Coffee and Crepes in Cary will even put together a class in your home showing you how to make their tasty treats.
Horseback riding -
Dreamwood Farms in Wendell offers classes for those just starting out and the more experienced equestrian. Private lessons run about $40 for 30 minutes.
Skating lessons - It is never too late to learn how to ice skate. My husband taught me how to skate a few years ago on New Year's Eve at the
Polar Ice House in Wake Forest. Polar ice, which also has locations in Cary and Garner, and
Raleigh IcePlex offer ice skating and hockey lessons for all ages.
Of the month clubs - From bacon to
peanut butter and jelly (yes, there this a club where you get gourmet pb and j each month), there is a club for everything! Just search away.
Do you have any suggestions for that hard to shop for person?
