RALEIGH, N.C. — Botox, fillers and laser treatments are expensive, but according to a Manhattan dermatologist, you do not have to break the bank to have beautiful skin.

According to Dr. Doris Day, great skin starts on the inside -- with a healthy diet and lifestyle. A person's skin benefits from regular cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and applying sunscreen, she said.

"Just use sunscreen on a daily basis," Day said. "It will prevent up to 90 percent of wrinkles."

Retinols, found in big name brands, are another essential. The science behind them proves retinols are effective and affordable, she said.

In her book, "Forget the Facelift," Day recommends facial exercises and spells out the things that sabotage skin: ultraviolet rays, smoking, salt, excess alcohol, allergens found in some beauty products and eating disorders.

"Your skin rejuvenates every day," Day said. "It wants to be healthy and beautiful. If we give it the right support, it will get there."

According to experts, a dermatologist or certified anesthetic nurse can help decide which products are best for your skin type.
