RALEIGH, N.C. — Whether you want cheesecake or a chocolate chess pie, these local places have tasty options for the holiday season.
MB's Tasty Pastries - This is truly a hidden gem! Located behind Heritage Market at the corner of Burlington Mills and Forrestville roads in Wake Forest, this small shack holds some of the most delicious pies you will ever taste. MaryBeth has been baking since she was in high school and now she has turned her hobby into a real business. She and her husband run the small shop Thursday through Sunday selling such decadent pies as: Bourbon pecan, apple, lemon, chocolate cream and chocolate chess. Make sure to try her lemon cookies and pecan pie bites! Pies are about $15 each.
Royal Cheesecake and Varieties -  I first met Kenneth and Tamara Williams, the folks behind Royal Cheesecake and Varieties, at the Midtown Farmers Market in North Hills in Raleigh. Their cheesecake stopped me in my tracks! Everything they make is done from scratch and you can really taste the difference. They offer specialty cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes and pies. Here's a list of their holiday flavors and specials:
  • Cupcakes: $23/dozen
  • Cakes: $35
  • Sweet Potato Pies: $15
  • Cheesecakes: $30/10 inch
  • Flavors: Carrot Cake, Chocolate Mocha Cheesecake, Cupcakes (vanilla, sweet potato, red velvet, gluten-free), Pound Cake (Lemon, Sweet Potato or Pumpkin), Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake, Red Velvet Cake, Sweet Potato Cheesecake, White Chocolate Peppermint Cheesecake
Sweet Traditions by LeAne - Pumpkin Spice Pound Cake and Caramel Apple Cake are just two of the specialty options LeAne has this year. You can also order some of her famous cupcakes! Delicious stuff! She is taking orders until Nov. 20 for Thanksgiving.
Big Bundts - Try a decadent bundt cake from this Chapel Hill staple. Flavors include Eggnog Rum, Pumpkin Rum and Maple-Glazed Pumpkin. There is even a Thanksgiving cookie box.
