Gas Station Argument Ends in Death
A Durham man was killed early Monday, apparently during an argument outside a convenience store, police said.
Posted — UpdatedDerrick Lamont Lunsford, 22, of 1835 Cheek Road, was found lying in the parking area outside the Kangaroo gas station and convenience store at 4604 N. Roxboro Road at about 1:30 a.m., police said.
Lunsford had been shot in the torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that two men had fled in a white Honda Accord with no bumper, and police later stopped a car matching that description on Snow Hill Road near Novaglen Road.
Samuel Cornell Wackerhagen, 22, of Mount Sinai Road, was charged with murder in Lunsford's death. Investigators said that Lunsford and Wackerhagen were acquaintances.
Derek Louis Godwin, 22, of Stadium Drive, jumped from the vehicle and ran. Police apprehended Godwin after a brief foot chase and charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder.
