Gas leak prompts evacuations in Durham
Firefighters had to evacuate a residential area near Guess Road and Peppertree Street in Durham after a report of a gas leak late Friday morning.
Posted — UpdatedDURHAM, N.C. — Firefighters had to evacuate a residential area near Guess Road and Peppertree Street in Durham after a report of a gas leak late Friday morning.
Angie Townsend, a spokeswoman for PSNC Energy, said contractors working in the area accidentally damaged a large gas line and that crews shut off the gas valve at 12:50 p.m.
About 49 customers were without service at the height of the outage, Townsend said.
