Gas Leak Causes Evacuations, Road Closures
A bank and a restaurant near the intersection of Main and Center streets in Holly Springs were evacuated Tuesday afternoon because of a suspected gas leak, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedSeveral streets near the intersection were closed to traffic for a few hours. All but Center Street between Main Street and Avent Ferry Road were reopened by 4 p.m.
PSNC Energy crews had to drill underground to check gas lines to determine the source of the leak, authorities said. They finally located the leak Tuesday evening and capped the line.
The Holly Springs Fire Department believed the leak was small enough that it caused no hazard to passing traffic, authorities said.
Authorities said they expected Center Street to reopen Tuesday night, and the businesses that were evacuated would likely reopen Wednesday morning.
