RALEIGH, N.C. — A Garner man was arrested over the weekend on a charge of statutory rape involving a 14-year-old girl.

Joshua Vanpatrick Haley, 27, was in the Wake County jail Monday afternoon on a $2.5 million bond.

Prosecutors said during a first court appearance Monday morning that the alleged victim in the case had been threatened in person and by phone to drop the charges.

Haley said through his attorney, however, that he didn't do it and that he didn't tell anyone else to do it either.

At the time of the alleged crime, Haley was out of jail on bond and under house arrest on other charges, including two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, a felony assault charge and two drug-related charges.

In 2008, he was accused of kidnapping a woman from a Cary home.

Haley has 18 convictions dating to 2003, including carrying a concealed weapon, breaking and entering and dealing drugs, according to state Department of Adult Correction. He has served two jail sentences totaling one year.
