Funeral planned for Bladen deputy killed in crash

Services have been planned for a Bladen County sheriff's deputy killed Friday in a car crash while responding to a call.

BLADENBORO, N.C. — Services have been planned for a Bladen County sheriff's deputy killed Friday in a car crash while responding to a call.

Visitation for the family of Deputy Dwayne Charles Hester, 39, is scheduled for 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6414 Center Road in Bladenboro. A funeral will be held in the church's Family Life Center at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said Hester died in a crash shortly before 11 p.m. Friday while he was responding to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. No details on the crash have been released.

Hester is survived by his wife and two children. Authorities said he had been a deputy for about a year and previously served as a police officer in Elizabethtown.
